Ordeal Observations
Walking in a fog covered wood following only the sound of a beating
drum and the only person you can see in the torch light; you’re brought
to a place where 4 mysterious figures welcome you to a fire, present you
with 4 challenges, and test your resolve while silent you still be. Soon
you are lead off once again through the fog by torch light and the sound
of a beating drum, off to spend a night alone in the wilderness relying
on only yourself as a resource in deep seclusion.

That is how this year’s September Ordeal started out, with 55+ people
that consisted of 23 ordeal candidates, 6 brotherhood, and 27
Fellowship. I’m Joshua Meehan a new Column writer for the website and
this was my 5th time being an Elangomat and one of my most rewarding
experiences I’ve had being an elangomat.
With all the humidity and rain up on Mt. Lemmon we weren’t able to take
down the tents yet with the 3 clans (this time organized by district) we
got all the water jugs and hoses from all the campsites in storage cabin
#4, and completed all of the following tasks such as:
-Lifting and transporting large and HEAVY slabs of an old rusty water
tank base.
-Digging a 6ft perimeter around the other water tank
-Digging holes for fence posts at the handicap area on staff hill
-Digging a trench for the water pipe
-Adding good sized rocks to the rock lawns at the handicap area on staff
hill
As you can see this ordeal consisted of a lot of digging, but was well
worth it for there was a great dinner Saturday night, great ceremonies
by the ceremonies team,
and a good fellowship we actually had a few members bring lightsabers so
at night there was a dueling game going on; as well as the movie "Monty
Python and the Holy Grail"
I would have to say for our new Ordeal Master Christian Duke this was a
very fulfilling ordeal and I can only hope the December 05’ and May 06’
run just as smoothly.
